111231 Super Junior Becomes the ‘Album King’ Thanks to Mr. Simple Sales


As 2011 comes to an end, people are curious to see who has come out on top in terms of album sales this year. And it’s none other than Hallyu group Super Junior! They’ve set a brand new record with managing to sell the most albums each year for the past three years.
This year, from January 1st to December 27th, Super Junior has sold 355,900 albums according to “2011 Singer Awards“. This recorded number has set a record high for the ‘Singer Awards’ which was established in 2009. That year, Seo Taiji had 248,800 units sold and then SNSD took over in 2010 with 309,400 units. Then along came Super Junior with ‘Mr. Simple‘.
The Type A version of the group’s fifth album sold a whopping 199,300 units and Type B added onto the sales with 53,500 copies. ‘A-Cha‘ sold a total of 73,900 copies. In second place was DBSK with 230,000 copies and then SNSD with 226,700 units. Rising groupINFINITE placed seventh with 124,100 units and solo singer IU came in at ninth with 92,900.

Super Junior Crowned Album King in Taiwan as well!
Super Junior, who won the ‘Grand Prize’ at ‘The 26th GOLDEN DISK AWARDS in OSAKA,’ also became the ‘Album King’ in Taiwan.
Super Junior’s 5th album ‘Mr. Simple’ and 4th album ‘BONAMANA’ ranked the 1st and 2nd on both album and music sections of ‘Korean Music Chart 2012 (http://tw.kkbox.com/event/2011kdma/rank.php?&channel=korea)’ which is announced by Taiwan’s music website KKBOX.
Especially, Super Junior ranked the 1st on KKBOX for 63 consecutive weeks with their 4th album title song ‘BONAMANA,’ marking the longest record in the history of KKBOX. Also, they took the 1st place with the 5th album title song ‘Mr. Simple’ for 21 consecutive weeks.
Moreover, Super Junior’s 5th album, ‘Mr. Simple,’ took the 1st place on ‘Korean/Japanese Album Section’ of annual album sales chart collected by Taiwan’s large record chain store, KWANGNAN, and proved Super Junior’s tremendous popularity in Taiwan once again.
In addition, Super Junior-M’s 2nd mini album, ‘Perfection,’ ranked the 2nd on ‘Chinese Album Section’ of KWANGNAN’s 2011 annual album sales chart.
Meanwhile, Super Junior won 4 awards including  ‘Most Popular Artist Award,’ ‘MSN Japan Award,’ ‘Album Award,’ and ‘Grand Prize’ at ‘The 26th GOLDEN DISK AWARDS in OSAKA’ on January 11th.
